William Seldeen is an attorney practicing civil litigation in state and federal courts in California.
Until September 2010, he was a Senior Associate in the Antitrust
practice group of Howrey LLP in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Mr. Seldeen has been
involved in a number of antitrust matters including NPI v. SCIF,
resulting in a record settlement victory under the Cartwright Act
against an insurance company, numerous antitrust class action cases, as
well as a number of matters involving government investigations and
merger clearance. These and other cases involved horizontal price
fixing, monopolization, vertical refusal to deal, and unfair competition
issues, as well as a number of related business torts (such as breach
of contract, contractual interference, defamation, and Lanham Act
claims). He has worked on a variety of industries including airline and
railroad transportation, veterinary pharmaceuticals, aftermarket
automotive parts, and consumer goods. Mr. Seldeen spent six months in
Howrey’s Brussels office practicing European antitrust law, including
working with European attorneys to successfully obtaining the European
Commission’s approval for the merger of one of the world’s largest
pharmaceutical companies. He has extensive, multi-state federal and
California state litigation experience, including participating in
multi-million dollar jury trials, authoring successful motions to
dismiss and summary judgment, and extensive fact development and
discovery experience.
In Summer 2001, he was a charter participant in Howrey’s Bootcamp
program. In 2003-2004, Mr. Seldeen prepared an annual presentation
highlighting recent trends in antitrust law, featured at the West Coast
General Counsels’ Conference. In 2008, Mr. Seldeen presented a
continuing legal education-accredited lecture entitled “Antitrust 101,”
covering the fundamentals of antitrust litigation. In 2009, Mr. Seldeen
participated in the American Bar Association’s Spring Meeting Mock Trial
regarding a proposed merger between two satellite radio companies
before a live jury.
